Minister for Local Government; Community Services; Seniors and Volunteering; Youth, Tony Simpson officially announced a successful Lotterywest grant amounting to over $240,000 for Southern Cross Care (SCC) on Wednesday 4 September.

This new funding will benefit seven SCC facilities. Several of these facilities focus on caring for people with dementia. Much of this funding will be utilised to improve the services and purchase items to help with the care of clients and residents with a cognitive impairment such as dementia. Purchased items will include cooking equipment, BBQs as well as art supplies and musical instruments. All of these activities have been proven to be successful recreational therapies in the treatment of dementia. SCC’s residential care facility in Broome, Germanus Kent House will receive a new commuter bus complete with a wheelchair hoist. The bus will allow staff to be self-sufficient in transporting residents to activities, medical and specialist appointments.

SCC are extremely grateful to Lotterywest for their ongoing support.
