Mrs_Epis_cake.jpgMargaret Hubery House came alive with the sound of music and visitors on Friday 8th August, when a special morning tea was organised to celebrate Mrs Phyllis Epis’ 101st birthday. Mrs Epis has been a resident with Southern Cross Care (WA) Inc. (SCC) for the past nine years.

Mrs Epis, affectionately known as Phyl, was joined by her family, fellow residents, staff and local MP Dr Jenson, who presented Mrs Epis with a boxed bouquet of pink gerbera and roses.

Jacqui O’Meara, Therapy Coordinator for Margaret Hubery House, gave a “This is Your Life” style look-back over Phyliss’ 101 years, which Phyllis happily added to. The secret to Phyl’s longevity, Martin said, “is the hundreds of anti-ageing creams that are in her possession!  She is inspiring in the way she is beautifully groomed everyday – in the way she wears her clothes, her jewelry, the best coiffured hair, her passion and a must, the lippy!”

Phyl first came into residential care at SCC’s Joseph Cooke House in 2005 and later relocated to Margaret Hubery House in 2013.  Phyl’s youngest sister, June, said Phyl’s time at these two facilities has been the happiest years for her sister as she has had the best care possible and has been very well looked after. Phyl is very socially active at Margaret Hubery House joining in all the activities – exercise groups, bingo, concerts, bus trips and happy hours.

In congratulating Phyl on reaching 101, Rosemary Hogan, Head of Care at SCC, said that Phyl was a remarkable woman and that Southern Cross Care was honored to care for her and looked forward to doing so for some time to come.
