Lucy Aslin has been awarded The Southern Cross Care Outstanding Nursing Student Scholarship to continue her studies in Nursing at The University of Notre Dame Australia.

The award was established to support a student enrolled in the University’s School of Nursing & Midwifery, located at the University’s Fremantle Campus. The purpose of the scholarship is to recognise an outstanding first year student in the area of Aged Care.  As part of the scholarship, SCC will provide opportunities for clinical practice at one of our facilities.

Having previously completed an Events Management Degree and then working in the resources sector, Lucy said she felt unfulfilled in her career and decided that she wanted to make change. After taking on a part-time role at an aged care facility, she was inspired to enrol in the Bachelor of Nursing course at Notre Dame.

“My role is to support elderly people living at home with disability, enabling them to live their life with dignity and to remain living in their home for as long as possible.

“Being able to help people live their lives to the full is what set me on the path to wanting to become a nurse,” she said.

Professor Elaine Pavlos, Dean of the School of Nursing & Midwifery, said she was grateful for the continued support of Southern Cross Care to Notre Dame’s Nursing students.

“The Southern Cross Care Outstanding Nursing Student Scholarship inspires and highlights students’ academic achievements, commitment and dedication to their future professional endeavours. The generosity of Southern Cross Care is a wonderful inspiration and remarkable example to others in the Notre Dame community and beyond,” Professor Pavlos said.

Errol Turner, CEO at SCC said Southern Cross Care was delighted to be able to partner with The University of Notre Dame Australia to support and recognise such a dedicated student.

“Our nursing team is integral to the success of our organisation, so we understand the importance of supporting the nurses of the future with opportunities for scholarships and practical experience while they are working towards their qualification.

“Lucy’s outstanding academic results combined with her commitment to her nursing career, will no doubt stand her in good stead in the future and we are delighted to be able to award this scholarship to Lucy to support her through her studies”.
