On the 27 November 2012 the Tony Quinlan Respite Centre in Hilton was officially opened.

The centre, owned and operated by Southern Cross Care, aims to provide specialist group activities for up to twelve participants living with dementia.

All activities will be developed using a person centred approach with an importance placed on developing meaningful activities for clients that match both their needs and interests.

Southern Cross Care chairman John Bryant said there was a need for a dementia-focused day centre in the area.

“We know first hand the benefits of respite care and the essential role it plays in supporting both care givers and those being cared for,” he said.

“Centres like this one offer valuable respite and support for carers and numerous benefits to those being cared for”

Concillor Bill Massie from The City of Fremantle performed the official opening and Father Paul Raj from Our Lady of Mt Carmel Parish blessed the new facility.
